But back in 1913 Bausch & Lomb began to produce optical glass. And after about 55 years, soft contact lenses from hydrophilic materials were released from her production laboratories. Currently, the company is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of contact lenses and solutions for them, as well as equipment for the ophthalmic industry. 1980 was a landmark in the history of the company – a factory for the production of contact lenses and care solutions was built. The first batch of multifunctional solution was released in the mid-80s. Around the same time, the company opened new factories in China, India and Ireland. A few years later, Bausch & Lomb acquires Polymer Technology and Laboratories Conoptica, and thus enters the market for hard, gas-tight contact lenses.
